MMS Orchestra Community,
Happy New Year! We are looking forward to a great spring semester in orchestra! Here is some information regarding the upcoming Solo and Ensemble performances.
What is Solo and Ensemble?
(Chamber, Symphony, Camerata, Philharmonic)
Solo and Ensemble in an opportunity for Chamber/Symphony/Camerata/Philharmonic students to perform in small groups (duets, trios, quartets, etc.) and/or a Solo performance. Although some solos are unaccompanied, most solos will require a piano accompanist. Students will perform for a judge who will give a rating and detailed feedback. They can also earn special medals for this event such as an “Outstanding Performance” award. This is a great opportunity for students to see a lot of growth in their ability and work on their “Chamber Music” skills.
All MMS students will be required to perform an ensemble. Mr. Ray and Ms. Prindle will assign and coach all students with their ensembles. Students who are interested in performing a solo who do not have a private tutor, please reach out to Mr. Ray or Ms. Prindle. We would be delighted to assist students without tutors in finding engaging solos for them to perform.
Beginners will have an opportunity to perform for a Solo/Ensemble event at a later date. There will be more information for this event, stay posted!
Where and When?
Friday-Saturday, February 18th – 19th @ Memorial High School
(Beginners date TBA!)
Students will be able to request specific time frames on these dates. There are several aspects that are factored into scheduling (religious commitments, accompanist availability, ensembles conflicts etc.). We appreciate your flexibility!
What is the fee?
The fee for this event is included in the Orchestra class fee that is collected at the beginning of the year. If you are performing solo, the accompanist fee is NOT included.
How do we enter students?
Mr. Ray and Ms. Prindle will assist students with ensemble sign-up. For students with a private tutor who would like to enter their solo, please visit the orchestra website to make your entry. Please note, you will need to arrange to have an accompanist before making your entry. If you are in need of a rehearsal space, please contact Mr. Ray/Ms. Prindle and we can assist. Accompanists who rehearse at MMS must be cleared through the district
